 - Buying Water Filters Online FAQ

Getting Your Water Filters Online: Answers by a Distributor of Aquasana

For health conscious Internet surfers, buying high performance water filters online is getting more and more popular everyday. We asked a distributor of Aquasana called Aquasana USA some frequently asked questions about buying water filters over the Internet, and some of the health hazards found in our home water supply.

Aquasana Water Filters

InfoFAQ: What is filtered water?

Aquasana USA: Water that is contaminant free and contains the trace minerals found in nature.

InfoFAQ: What are the most common chemicals found in water?

Aquasana USA: There are 2100 known contaminants that can cause cancer found in our water supply the most prevalent are lead, chlorine, and VOC’s (volatile organic chemicals)

InfoFAQ: Is all filtered water the same?

Aquasana USA: No due to the many different types of filtration media on the market today all filters do not filter out the same contaminants.

InfoFAQ: Is tap water harmful to drink?

Aquasana USA: Yes, according to the U.S.Council of Environmental Quality “Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine”.

InfoFAQ: Is bottled water as healthy as filtered water?

Aquasana USA: No, the regulations that govern bottled water only require it to be “as good as” tap water.

InfoFAQ: Does chlorine harm the skin or hair?

Aquasana USA: Yes, chlorine makes the skin become dehydrated, the cells contract causing dryness and wrinkles. Chlorine has similar effects to the human hair stripping the hair of its natural oils, drying it out then becoming brittle.

InfoFAQ: What is fluoride?

Aquasana USA: Fluoride is a natural occurring element that exists in combination with other elements as a fluoride compound and is found as a constituent of minerals in rocks and soil. When water passes through and over the soil and rock formations containing fluoride it dissolves these compounds, resulting in the small amounts of soluble fluoride present in virtually all water sources.

InfoFAQ: What are THM’s and heavy metals?

Aquasana USA: THM’s otherwise known as Trihalomethanes are formed in water when chlorine combines with other natural compounds. Heavy metals such as lead and mercury are among the many heavy metals found in the nations water supply.

InfoFAQ: What are the natural occurring minerals found in water?

Aquasana USA: In nature all fresh water contains natural minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium.

InfoFAQ: Are minerals beneficial to drink?

Aquasana USA: On a more scientific side, there are several very credible research reports and books that stress the more recent opinion that long-term consumption of de-mineralized water can in fact be dangerous.

InfoFAQ: What is soft and hard water?

Aquasana USA: Hard water is determined by the amount of calcium found in the water. Research has shown that consuming soft water, which is free or greatly reduced of calcium is detrimental to you health. The human body requires the consumption of minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium to maintain good health.

InfoFAQ: Is it easier to buy bottled water or filtered water over the Internet?

Aquasana USA: It is easier to purchase a water filter for your home over the Internet and the cost per gallon is substantially less. The quality of the water is far greater and you are assured you are drinking healthy water.

InfoFAQ: Is it important to know the amount of calcium and magnesium, or calcium carbonate in our water?

Aquasana USA: The short answer is yes, these are minerals that naturally occurring in our water. There is thousands of hot springs around the world, which contain high mineral content that boost the healing effects to the human body.

InfoFAQ: Is sodium in water harmful?

Aquasana USA: Yes, for example people that have water softeners should not cook or drink the water that comes from the softener. Water softeners not only remove healthy minerals but also add sodium to the water. Studies have shown
that regular consumption of sodium can cause increase coronary disease.

InfoFAQ: What is Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Distillers?

Aquasana USA: Reverse Osmosis and Distillation were first developed over 40years ago for the printing and photo processing industries, which require mineral free water. The experts describe Reverse Osmosis and Distillation this way:

Reverse Osmosis is a process that exposes water under pressure, to a semi-permeable membrane with a very fine pore structure. Because most inorganic contaminants are of a larger molecular size than water, the membrane rejects certain contaminants, minerals and a large part of the water. The portion of water that passes through the membrane is stripped
of inorganic compounds and trace minerals. Because many synthetic chemicals like herbicides and pesticides are smaller, molecularly, than water an R.O. system must also be used in conjunction with a carbon filter. R.O. systems require adequate water pressure and extensive maintenance.

Distillation is a process that passes water over a heated coil, causing the water to vaporize and become gaseous. The steam then rises and transfers to a cooling chamber, where it condenses back into a liquid. This process separates water from inorganic compounds like lead, calcium, magnesium, etc. Distillation also destroys bacteria. This process is not very effective at removing organic chemicals since they typically vaporize at a lower temperature than water and are transferred in the steam. A distiller should always be used in conjunction with a carbon filter.

InfoFAQ: How harmful is showering, hot tubs and swimming pools for my skin?

Aquasana USA: Showering in chlorinated water is 1000 times more harmful than drinking the same water. In most cases municipal water contains more chlorine that any swimming pool or hot tub.
