Company Quote

"At Vertos Medical, our mission is to change the lives of patients suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). The quality of life of millions of patients is diminished due to LSS symptoms that severely impact their ability to stand, walk, and perform even everyday tasks." - James Corbett, Vertos Medical President and CEO.

Company History

Vertos Medical Inc. was founded by two interventional radiologists, David Solsberg, MD, PC, and Donald Schomer, MD, who recognized a lack of treatment options between short-term palliative pain management and risky invasive open surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) sufferers. Dr. Solsberg and Dr. Schomer developed the mild® procedure, an innovative and minimally invasive treatment that provides long-term relief. - Vertos Medical

Vertos Medical Case Study

Two-year outcomes of percutaneous lumbar decompression mild®: for spinal stenosis

Summary: Two-year outcomes of percutaneous lumbar decompression mild® for spinal stenosis

In this long-term, 2-year prospective study of the mild®: procedure spine treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) and the associated back pain and related symptoms, 45 patients experienced statistically significant mean decreases in pain (VAS improvement of 3.8 points) and improvements in functional mobility (ODI improvement of 11.6 points). The positive outcomes achieved with the minimally invasive mild® lumbar decompression were found to be stable and maintained throughout the 2-year study period. No major device- or procedure-related adverse events were recorded during the procedure or study term.

Patients were treated with mild®: at 11 spine centers in the U.S. The study included only LSS patients with radiographic evidence of ligamentum flavum hypertrophy (2.5 mm or greater), a significant cause of back pain and other neurogenic claudication symptoms. Study patients continued to exhibit statistically significant improvements in functional mobility and decreases in pain at all follow-up visits post-treatment (1 week, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years). Patients also continued to be satisfied with the results of the mild procedure for spinal stenosis: Mean patient rating on the ZCQ Satisfaction scale was 2.2 at 2-year follow-up. A score of 2.5 or lower indicates statistically significant satisfaction.
