Answer: My partner Gus and I started two real estate funds in Panama in the mid 2000's, and in the process we were flying over the jungle looking for different opportunities we might purchase and I remarked to the pilot "Why is there a golf course in the middle of the jungle?" and the pilot looked at me silly and said, "that is not a golf course, that is an area that has been deforested.
Neither my partner nor I had ever been environmentalists or the tree hugger type, but we were real estate guys and even we knew that the highest and best use for the rain forest was not to come and destroy it, slash and burn, and make it a desert in a tropical area.
