Question: What Is The Trucker Tax?

Answer: There isn`t one specific tax that is known as the "Trucker Tax" but there are many taxes that truckers and trucking companies are required to pay just to do their jobs. For example, licenses and vehicle registration is much more expensive each year than a normal personal use vehicle. Owner/operators also need to purchase permits to cross state lines, pay additional fuel taxes, and of course they need to pay the 2290 Tax (Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax) each year. I would estimate the additional taxes and fees would amount to over $10,000 a year for the average owner/operator beyond the normal taxes a regular person would pay.
